Review:
This
is a really good film about fantasy escapism.
The film has a very good storyline. While
based on a children's book, it is quite unique, creative, imaginative and symbolic. It's fun, heartfelt, and clever.
The characters are likeable. The protagonist Max seems like a Brat at first, but you have feelings for him and he eventually comes of age when he meets the creatures. The creatures are very entertaining. I like the chemistry between Max and Carol.
Spike Jonze did a great job directing. It is beautifully shot and it has very little CGI in it. The film is actually done in film rather than in green screen with a CGI background. The creatures are people in costumes
while the faces are computer generated.
It also has a very catchy soundtrack by Karen O.
I do not think that it's just a kids movie but rather more of a family film. I think adults will also enjoy it and be inspired.
Overall, this is a great film and if you
haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
Max Scale:
10/10
